SUMMARY: The Program Support Office (PSO) has an open position for a Senior Communicator I as part of the Corporate and Strategic Section. The position functions primarily as the client representative and lead communicator for the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program. In this capacity, the incumbent will develop a variety of communications products for both electronic and print media.
DUTIES: The Senior Communicator will be responsible for planning, managing, and developing communication strategy and products such as Web sites, brochures, fact sheets, technical reports, newsletters, CDs, and other products for DOE's Federal Energy Management Program and other DOE programs as requested. This position will design, negotiate, and implement effective solutions to the clients' communication and content challenges. The position will be responsible for leading project teams including working closely with colleagues such as writers, editors, Web producers, information architects, and designers to develop communication materials. Responsibilities include preparing cost estimates and project charters as required and ensuring projects meet deadlines and budget expectations. Following NREL editorial style, complying with NREL print and electronic publication policies, and ensuring high-quality products are required.

Requirements |
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in communications, journalism, other related discipline, or equivalent experience. Also required is a minimum of five to seven years of technical communications experience in an R&D environment; demonstrated experience with successfully addressing a variety of complex issues; in-depth knowledge of both communications and Web/Internet principles and practices; strong leadership and project management skills; and demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. In addition, the candidate must have demonstrated experience with:
Developing and maintaining strong client relationships
Writing content, editing, and coordinating the production of large and complex Web sites
Producing communication products for federal, technical, financial, and business audiences
Working on multiple, high-level, complex projects
Pre-employment drug testing required.
